The Owners

Al and Lisa Burns are the proud owners of Sprouts Learning Academy, the premier Christian preschool and learning academy and daycare in Seguin, TX.

Lisa had the vision to create a preschool and child care environment that mirrored the quality care children get in their own home. Being a mother of seven children, she understands how essential it is to find a nurturing environment where children can feel loved and encouraged to explore their world. This is where her idea for a learning academy began to grow.

Education has always been important to Al and Lisa. They both excelled in high school, where they first met. While Al spent two years in France serving a Christian service mission, Lisa completed her Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Business. Upon his return, they married. Lisa gained valuable experience managing several businesses, and Al lived out his boyhood dream of working as a licensed pyrotechnician and attending college and later Dental School at the University of Nebraska. 

The family moved to Seguin to open Alligator Dental, the first pediatric dental office in the area. Al and Lisa fell in love with South Texas and the area. They quickly decided that this place was home and raise their children. Their love for the community prompted them to open both Mixed Pickles and Sprouts Learning Academy- to provide places for children to learn and grow.

Lisa is a very busy mom who balances home, serving in the community in many capacities and running their businesses. Al is an active and fun dad who balances servicing the little teeth of Seguin and teaching at the University of Texas Health Science Center. 

While they balance busy work lives, Al and Lisa never lost sight of the importance of childcare and education in the young lives of children. It's part of the reason why they found it so important to open Sprouts Learning Academy when First Baptist Christian Academy closed 2012. Even while dealing with the needs of their own children, the Burns family felt it important that the parents of Seguin had a childcare center and preschool academy they could count on, one that addresses all of the young students' needs.

Together, they are committed to building a community where there children, and children of the community can thrive. They commit to the highest standards of child care and education and to making Sprouts Learning Academy the best Christian preschool and childcare center in Seguin.  

Our History

When First Baptist Christian Academy announced, in the spring of 2012, that it would be closing, Lisa and Al Burns were devastated to lose a beloved child care center — not only for their girls who would not be able to attend the school that they loved and enjoyed, but also for the wonderful preschool teachers who worked there and did their best to tend to all of the child care and learning needs of the students. Out of determination and love for the tremendous efforts of these teachers, the Burns decided to join forces with them to form their own preschool learning center, Sprouts Learning Academy.

The reputation of these teachers, combined with their superior child care and teaching abilities, made starting this project an easy decision. Upon finding the perfect location and site for the school, a preschool and daycare facility was developed to create the premier preschool and child care center of Seguin! With some of the same teachers from First Baptist and a new, more balanced approach to early education, the Sprouts Learning Academy came to be.

Our Values

We pride ourselves on the qualities that separate us from other choices you have for your childcare. We believe in the importance of early childhood education and an early emphasis on strong moral values and virtues. We take a Christian approach to our teaching methods and curriculum while embracing the latest knowledge about child care. We believe that a diverse curriculum with an even hand in guiding students, allowing them to explore their own path and interests, is the best approach to early education.

The concept behind Sprouts Learning Academy may sound new, but we simply combine the love and attention that a child would receive at a typical daycare with the structure of preschool. We nurture our students while giving them tools for personal growth. Over the last few years, we’ve helped many children start to sprout, and we hope you’ll let us do the same for yours.
